Julia Scott Papiernik
Julia Scott Papiernik was raised in the Elmwood Village. As soon as she could hold a pencil she began drawing mermaids, and quickly set her focus on dresses. During middle school she began her collection of fashion cut outs, carefully saving them in sketchbooks and adding personal iterations. Towards the end of elementary school and into high school, Julia worked for Annie Adams designing jewelry and producing products to keep up with the summer vendor show demands.
The summers before junior and senior year, she lived in NYC to attend summer fashion classes at FIT.  Senior year of high school, Julia lived in Brooklyn for two weeks to intern for Mara Hoffman before graduating from Buffalo Seminary to attend FIT for its world renowned Fashion Design program.  She attended FIT for two years to attain an AAS in Fashion Design while also enrolled in Millinery and Jewelry casting courses on the weekends when she wasn’t interning for Vera Wang.  Julia decided to expand her education and stumbled upon the opportunity to live abroad if she attended Marist College, so she transferred junior year to be an hour north of the city to obtain a BA in Art History.  She lived in Florence for one semester to study Italian and traveled all over Europe.
After college, she returned to Buffalo grateful for everything it has to offer.  She longed for a fashion industry in Buffalo.  Upon moving back, she realized there were limited fashion design opportunities, Julia decided to jump into the real estate world working for Ellicott Development, then Stovroff and Taylor Realtors, and currently employed by Hodgson Russ as a Real Estate Legal Assistant. Julia’s life in fashion and commitment to a Buffalo fashion scene continues as she serves as CPO of Fig [fashion’s initial garment] and is launching her first line of lingerie, Scottfree.
